About Rodney

Rodney H. Weston has been working for his community for many years. From serving as a volunteer fire fighter, a volunteer ambulance attendant, a municipal politician, a provincial member of the legislature to his current role as Member of Parliament for the riding of Saint John.

Rodney attended the New Brunswick Community College, Saint John campus before starting his work career that included operating several owned businesses, working in the public service as a Deputy Minister in the office of Premier Bernard Lord and serving on the senior management team of a locally owned, international food production company. These positions have made him aware of the challenges faced by the local community and the people who carry on business.

Time as the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Aquaculture in the government of New Brunswick gave Rodney the opportunity to understand the working relationship between the various levels of government as the key to long term success of any community. This experience has allowed him to work on projects that require the involvement of the different levels of government with great success for his riding.

Since being elected in October 2008 as the Member of Parliament, Rodney has been recognized by the Prime Minister with his appointment as the Chair of the Fisheries and Oceans Committee. Such an appointment is unusual for a first term Member of Parliament and Rodney has used the position to pursue numerous opportunities for Atlantic Canada. His capability in Parliament has also been recognized by his involvement in member statements and Ministerial questions.

Rodney was born in Saint John, is married to Dawn (Connolly) and they have one son, Hudson, who keeps them busy running to hockey rinks, ball fields and other sports related activities in their East Saint John neighborhood.
